October 15: Annual Meeting
In addition to the Brags Wall, social, potluck and dessert contest, we were pleased to have Janet DiPirro LVT present to the membership on dog first aide. Some topics of the presentation included toxic foods, bandage techniques, CPR, daily examinations of your dog, items that should be in your first aide kit. Thank you, Cathe Seaman, for arranging this fun social/meeting!

August 13-14: Water Trial
The Great Lakes Portuguese Water Dog Club is excited to announce the results of our August 13 & 14 water trial at Englehardt Park in Birch Run, Michigan.
Huge thanks to Judge John Brock who arrived Saturday morning to monsoon-like rains, thunder and lightening. He handled everything with calm and good nature. Thanks for all your encouragement, particularly to our first-time exhibitors. The lake, site of our 2015 National Specialty Water Trial, was a great venue for our trial.
Congratulations to all the new title holders, and to all the participants!

July 16: Annual Picnic/Play Day
The 2016 Annual Picnic was, once again, a huge success and lots of fun! A big thank you to our hosts, David Swank and Scott Lenz, for inviting us to their private park!!! For many of us, this is our favorite event each year.
Our PWDs also had a grand time...all 35 of them! They were all exhausted by mid afternoon. It rained for only a few moments; the weather was perfect and comfortable the rest of the day. Much food, many laughs, and we (our PWDs included) all appreciate a party with our friends.

July 2 - 3: Water Trial
The Great Lakes PWD Club held its annual Water Trials at Camp Lael, Lapeer, MI on July 2nd & 3rd. We were very pleased to have Alan Reisdorf as our judge. His pleasant manner and good humor kept everyone at ease. Plus the weather was beautiful.
Thanks to everyone that volunteered their efforts to make the trial run smoothly. We particularly enjoyed the great food prepared by Scott and David.

June 11: Water Workshop for Beginners
Several teams of varying skill level and personal goals joined us on June 11 for the basic water workshop. Participants received one-on-one advice and feedback. We look forward to seeing these teams in action at a water trial in the future!

April 23: Dry Land Water Workshop for Beginners
The dry land workshop was well attended with 21 working teams, the majority of which were completely new to water work. The day started off with a general introduction to water work presentation. Then participants were broken into three groups and rotated through four working sessions with their dogs: Stay, Come, Retrieve and Delivery to Hand.
This was a really fun event for participants, as well as for the presenters. The GLPWDC is hopeful that many of these teams will join us for water practice this year!
April 9: Dog Gone Fun Day
This social event was well attended with roughly 40 people, some of which were not members at the time. The day was packed with interesting presentations and games people played with their dogs. Kim Hanson gave a presentation about basic training, trick training and shaping. Tina Leach presented general information about Barn Hunt. Robin Burmeister and David Swank showed techniques for dog nail trimming. And Ronda Ryan organized some games for dogs and their owners.
